Transport

Road transport represents major source of pollution, which affects both human and natural environment. Transport:
1) pollutes air and emits substances causing global climatic changes;
2) pollutes roadside soil and water with heavy metals and oil products, and with municipal waste;
3) generates dust and noise;
4) in case of traffic accidents, endangers environment due to spilled oil products and other toxic and hazardous substances;
5) endangers diversity of biota and affects living conditions of animals (blocking migratory routes).

Wild animals have established routes and paths. Crossing of human and animal paths may cause fatal encounters. Most frequent collisions of vehicles with wild animals registered in Estonia involve either elk (Alces alces) or roe deer (Capreolus capreolus).
