Tourism
Within the last century tourism has become an important industry. Increased travelling and recreational activities have major impact on natural environment. This has caused a need to control tourism-induced environmental impact and the notion of ecotourism has been introduced. Ecotourism is responsible travelling, preserving nature and cultural heritage and welfare of local people (definition by Estonian Ecotourism Association).
Estonia issues ecotourism quality label EHE – Ehtne ja Huvitav Eesti (Estonia – the Natural Way). The purpose of EHE label is to promote the principles of ecotourism. When joining the system, a tourism enterprise gains competitive advantage and output on rapidly increasing market share, characterised by such keywords as environmental sensitivity, natural experience of wildlife and culture.
