Issues under the convention
Each party to the Convention on Biological Diversity took an obligation to develop national Clearning-House Mechanism of Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD-CHM).
CBD-CHM is a technical tool for collecting information concerning biodiversity and efficient dissemination thereof to all potential users. CBD-CHM has been established for the implementation of the three main goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity. These goals are:
1. conservation of biological diversity or biodiversity;
2. sustainable use of its components;
3. fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources.
CBD-CHM includes the following thematics of the Convetion on Biological Diversity:
* conservation;
* identification and monitoring;
* in situ and ex situ conservation;
* sustainable use of components of biological diversity;
* incentive measures;
* impact assesment and minimizing adverse impacts;
* access to genetic resources;
* training and capacity-building;
* public education and awarness;
* access to and transfer of technology;
* exchange of information;
* technical and scientific cooperation;
* information distribution;
* financing;
* general measures (strategies, plans and programmes).
In addition to these thematics CBD-CHM can be include such thematics like:
* forests biodiversity;
* mires and grasslands biodiversity;
* Sea, coastline and inland waters biodiversity;
* biodiversity in argiculture;
* biosafety;
* how tourism, planning, transport and hunting impact biodiversity;
* traditional lifestyle;
* intellectual property rights.
